Eliminate Disruptive Behavior in Your Classroom Forever

My surprisingly simple and powerful techniques will easily give you a more peaceful, productive classroom — guaranteed every day for the rest of your teaching career!

Dear Teacher,

My name is Tom Daly. We’ve never met, but I know a couple things about you:

1) You got into teaching for all the right reasons but find yourself occasionally frustrated by problem students who have the whammy on you and send you home feeling frustrated, defeated, disillusioned, unhappy, or worse.

And . . .

2) If someone gave you a new way of dealing with unresponsive and disruptive students — and it was an easy-to-follow method that actually worked — you’d want to hear more about it.

This is me with my daughter Brooke.

While each of us brought the baggage of our own learning "issues" to the father-daughter equation, I'm happy to report that Brooke is doing great in college and that both of us continue to learn and grow as we go along.

Before I tell you how to turn around even the worst kids, let me show you what my techniques are doing for other teachers:

". . . your book really DOES work!  Not only on your mindset, but those around you, too."

Hi Tom, I just wanted to say "Thank You" a million times, and I've only just finished Chapter 6 in your book. I have found a new way to channel my anger from using frustrating words into using whimsical and comical words.

OK, now I sound like a commercial, but your book really does work! Not only on your mindset, but on those around you, too.

I know that I am going to be a better teacher (and mom) after having read your book. Thanks again.

—Mollie McKee, Josephine Texas

"I love this program and cannot imagine teaching any other way!"

Tom, I just had to tell you what a difference your program has made in my life! Your book turned my long term sub assignment from the dept. of hell into a walk in the park.

For every one student I help directly, there are at least three other students I get hooked on learning and being productive just because of their interactions with my students.

I love this program and quite frankly can not even imagine teaching any other way!

- Charlene Guss, Winnetka, California

Here's the problem with teaching today
(and tell me if you can relate to this . . . )

Teachers are trained to deliver information to students who will sit still and listen — and then they’re put in front of classrooms with students who won't sit still and listen!

Hello?? Does anyone else see a problem here?

And so we drive home frustrated, wondering,

"Why did I ever go into teaching?" or,

"Am I really cut out for this?" or,

"If only those two ADHD kids weren't in my class, everything would be perfect."

The amazing thing is, once I found the secret to reaching these kids (which I will reveal in a minute), their lives and fortunes changed forever — and I became a happier, more fulfilled person.

I was in love with my job again. I re-experienced again all the wonderful reasons I became a teacher.

(You do remember that feeling, don’t you?)

Before I give you the secret, consider these facts:

On average, there are at least one to three children who have ADHD in every classroom of 30 students.

Parents, while well-meaning in many cases, can be more demanding than ever.

Many of the extended family and natural neighborhood support systems we enjoyed as kids simply don't exist anymore.

Shrinking budgets and crowded classrooms put extra pressure on your teaching skills.

About half of all teachers leave the profession within their first five years.

Those are just a few of the truths you already know. But as you'll soon see, I think the "death of teaching" has been greatly exaggerated.

I'm here to tell you that creating a happier, more productive classroom comes down to a series of easy strategies that are so simple you will be tempted to dismiss them.

I'll be honest — sometimes my only problem in presenting these techniques is convincing teachers that they don’t have to implement fancy, complicated methods based on abstract, psychological theories.

On the contrary — many teachers receive a profound, "A-ha!" experience after trying my methods because they involve making a powerful paradigm shift that instantly transforms the dynamic between teacher and student.

Here’s an example that, while more dramatic than most, is not at all untypical:

Not too long ago, I had a student named Josh who had a severe case of ADHD. He acted impulsively, blurted obscenities, had a history of violence with other students, and even attacked more than one teacher.

Frankly, I didn’t want anything to do with this kid. But my classroom was considered a last resort, and I had no choice in trying to help him.

After only two months using one of my simple strategies (found in Chapter 7 of my book, more on that in a minute), Josh improved so dramatically that when a brand new student began acting up in my class, Josh actually went right up to him and told him to knock it off.

In his own "Josh" way, he was actually helping me manage my classroom! My worst nightmare became my unwitting teaching assistant!

What was my secret?

I found a way to reach Josh that was so simple and natural that he had no idea I was trying to lead him down a better path. My new-found technique, combined with a couple other strategies, took almost no effort, but was so powerful that it worked in countless other problematic situations I came across.

"It works like magic!"

Tom, you wrote about taking walks and talking with your students and how this creates a different rapport between teacher and student. This truly does work! My students beg to walk with me. They open up and share what is in their hearts. It works like magic! Our relationship deepens and student behavior is positively affected.

—Carolanne Z., St. Charles, Missouri

I could give you page after page of stories about students who have been transformed by these techniques, but for now, let me just tell you that I’ve taught children considered to be the poster children of ADHD, including a student that NO one thought had a chance at any kind of success because he was on probation for attempted murder.

I also taught a girl named Mary who wouldn’t even speak because she was so horribly neglected by parents who had left her alone in a closet for months at a time.

The good news is that I was able to get through to each and every one of them using these techniques, and, most importantly, they all graduated from high school.

Your problem students may not be so dramatically challenged. But I know you’ll agree that even just ONE problem student who exhibits ADHD symptoms can easily disrupt your lesson and ruin your day.

Okay, here’s the secret I promised earlier . . .

(Actually, just to show you how passionately I feel about this subject, I'm going to give you four!)

Even if you never read my book or watch my DVD, do these four things with your most difficult students and you will see dramatic improvements almost immediately:

   1. Find out what they love, and figure out a way to involve it in their day.

(In Chapter 8 of my book, I give you an absurdly easy way to do this on the first day of school — or any other day during the year.)

   2. "Listen" to your students' misbehavior.

Student misbehavior isn't just an annoying disruption — it's a secret message the student is (unwittingly) trying to convey to you. And usually that message can be boiled down to two words: "Reach me." On page 45, I give you a way to do exactly that — a method that is so effortless, effective and simple, you’re going to slap your forehead and wonder why you didn’t think of it first.

   3. Get your difficult students to "like" you.

I put the word "like" in quotes just to make it clear that I’m not talking about a loosey-goosey approach in which you undercut your authority by becoming their "friend." I’m talking about winning the respect from your student in such a likeable way that he then becomes comfortable letting his guard down and now is on "your side." You’ll be astonished what this technique alone will do, and you might even become a hero to him in the process. My book gives you the exact approach for doing this.

   4. Stop controlling and start "coaching"

Change your style of thinking from a controlling, adversarial mode to something more like coaching. You almost want to think of yourself as a personal trainer for these kids. The typical teacher is thinking, "I need to establish control, and the student needs to follow me and do what they’re told." And that works just fine for regular students. But it’s a whole different ball game with your most disruptive kids.

Okay, let me let you in on one more bonus secret. It's this . . . most  underachieving kids desperately want to turn things around . . . even if they might not act like it.

How do I know this? Because I was a kid with ADHD myself — and I know what works and what rings false with these kids. As a high school teacher in San Diego with a master’s degree, I am living proof that ADHD kids can succeed.

Why else should you listen to what I have to say?

I have taught these techniques to thousands of teachers in 32 countries around the world. With 15 years of daily classroom experience at all grade levels, I have also personally trained more than 2,200 educators as an adjunct instructor in the Exceptional Children's Department at National University in San Diego, California.

Along with two teaching credentials (one administrative and the other in specialized behavior disorders), I have also served as a behavior consultant for a school district in Colorado.

But more important, I receive letters like this on a regular basis:

"I can already tell that the next 30 years until retirement are going to be significantly easier and more rewarding thanks to you"

Thanks for your brilliant book. . . . All I've read are snippets so far, and I can already tell that the next 30 years until retirement are going to be significantly easier and more rewarding thanks to you. How is it that your common sense wasn't common to anyone else?

The ADHD Solution for Teachers: How To Turn Any Disruptive Child Into Your Best Student

"This book is a wonderful tool, and as a teacher working with emotionally disturbed, at-risk students, I found its lessons almost more valid than my actual credential education. No kidding!"

—Lara Hershkowitz, San Diego, California

This 202-page book outlines in step-by-step detail all the most effective strategies I’ve developed over my 15 years of specialized teaching.

This is what they never taught you in teacher certification class.

"The ADHD Solution for Teachers" will give you a step-by-step approach that will transform your worst student into your best — or, more specifically, give you the exact blueprint to reach your highly distractible ADHD student so that you can go home feeling refreshed and energized instead of frustrated and defeated.

No more battles. No more power struggles. Just you and your students on the same page together working toward the same goal.

This book shows you exactly what to say and do, even giving you the exact words and tone of voice to use in situations you currently face every day.

Would you like to know what to say to obnoxious students who ask you embarrassing personal questions in front of the entire class? My retort stops them dead in their tracks and you’ll never have to hear that question again. (Also works like a charm with adults in any social setting!)

Would you like to know how to get an unresponsive, stubborn student working on his assignment without threats or rancor — even if his head is down on his desk and he’s pretending not to hear you? (This technique is so effective, you’ll find yourself using it with your kids at home.)

Would you like to know how to enlist the help of the rest of your class in dealing with a problem student — without them even knowing it?

Please note: This teacher training material is not just for students with ADHD.  It works for kids of all stripes because it's based upon universal principles of human interaction that haven't changed in 10,000 years.

Here are some of the other strategies you’ll discover that will save your students and help you fall in love with your job again:

Why normal students buy into the concept of school, and why ADHD kids don’t. (And what you can do to get the ADHD kids to buy into it, too)

The single biggest factor in becoming "that one special teacher" students will remember the rest of their lives.

Why trying to control your ADHD student is like mud wrestling a pig (you both get muddy and the pig enjoys it) — and what really works instead.

How to reduce the frequency of annoying ADHD behaviors such as blurting out, pencil-tapping, throwing objects, and desktop-napping by as much as 500 percent.

How to tell if your nightmare student truly has ADHD, or if he’s just a total brat. My short checklist on page 23 gives you the answer.

The five mistakes almost every teacher makes with ADHD students.

The 10 words that instantly defuse any confrontation with a student. (Also works like a charm on parents who blame you for their child’s failures.)

How to get ADHD children to do what you want them to do . . . and make them think it was their idea.

The one, sure-fire response to use when you’re being verbally abused by any student or parent.

How a classic sales technique transformed a sullen, withdrawn student into a high-achieving graduate and quite literally saved his life — and how you can use this technique to get through to your most unreachable kid.

Why your choice of words in discussions with parents and administrators is so crucial. Learn the exact, professional phrasing that wins respect and admiration, and could even earn you a promotion.

How to control any situation without looking like you’re trying to control anything.

The single biggest mistake all teachers make when giving directions. Correct this blunder and your students will do what you ask them quickly and quietly.

How to protect yourself from parents and administrators who claim you are dropping the ball with a student. (Guaranteed to silence the parent and make you a superstar in your principal’s eyes.)

Why some kids don’t respond well to praise and others do — and what you can say to the ones who don’t.

What to tell a student who insists, "You can’t tell me what to do." (This is the single best technique I’ve ever seen for kids who are giving you problems.)

How to better understand yourself, which will translate into understanding your students better.

An easy way to find out what your student secretly loves on the first day of class. (Once you know what makes him tick, he’ll be yours till June.)

The story of how I parlayed a student’s love of Mustang cars into a 180-degree turnaround of completed assignments and good behavior. (No, I didn’t buy him a car!)

How to determine if a student has a serious problem at home without ever asking him.

How to set up instant, emergency curriculum you can use whenever you need it. This one’s a no-brainer, and once your principal sees it in action, he will likely ask you if he can borrow it to show other teachers.

The secret to getting students to enjoy writing every day.

How to set up your classroom to reduce ADHD-related problems.

A simple way to guarantee that your student will never forget his homework assignment. (Parents love this one, and it also gets the homework-eating dog off the hook.)

The single biggest mistake most teachers make with chatterboxes. My eight methods to silence chatterboxes work like a remote control "mute" button!

Why creating responsibility in the classroom is like having your own teacher’s assistant — and how to instill it. (Hint: Stop being a cop and take on the role of Moses.)

How to teach students to avoid trouble and lead them to make smart life decisions.

Imagine no more battles with your students.  No more power struggles.  Just everyone on the same page working together toward the same goal.

"How to Turn Any Disruptive Child Into Your Best Student" will give you a step-by-step approach that will give you control of your classroom, raise the focus level of your students, and reignite your passion for teaching.

Think about how grateful the student’s parents will be to see their child making real progress — and how happy and relieved you’ll be knowing that you don’t have to battle ANY of your students anymore.

   Teacher Feedback

Mr. Daly, I know this probably
sounds cheesy, but I just
wanted you to know that I
believe in your book. I use it
and believe in it.
And in this
day of so many different
methods and ways of dealing
with kids, your strategies WORK.
They make sense and they
work. And as a teacher, I
appreciate it and wanted to
tell you as much.

—Clint Lucy, Waldron, Arkansas

I had a student that came into
my classroom already labeled
from the year before that had
no self confidence or
self-esteem in completing and
understanding school in
general. After reading your
book, I was able to reach this
child and I believe he reached
his full potential in my
classroom as he went from
failing to the highest student
in my class.
Your book was a
miracle in my classroom!

- Marie L., Apalichicola, Florida

Mr. Daly, I am ecstatic with
what I have read so far.

I am presently tutoring a young
7-year-old girl diagnosed with
ADHD. I was at my wit's end as
to how to handle my tutoring
her, because nothing worked.
The school here had her repeat
kindergarten twice and at
present she is no way ready for
first grade. Thank God I got
the idea to check the Internet
and there you were — you
wonderful person. Thank you. I
understand so much more and
hope I can pass this on to her
parents, who also are trying
hard to teach her reading,
counting and printing at home.

— Georgia Smieja, Waunakee, Wisconsin

I purchased your book last year
and love it. I was able to
reach a few students that no
one else could.
I shared it
with colleagues and now my copy
is gone. I believe they loved
it so much they wanted it for
themselves. How can I get my
copy replaced? Thanks!

- Gwen Sasiene, Columbia, S. Carolina

Thanks again for your
refreshingly to-the-point
material
— a nice change after
years of trying to mine useful
information out my university
courses!

- Dave Moran, Hamilton, New Zealand

Tom, your book helped me to
prioritize face to face time
with individual students . . .
Everyone benefits generally,
but it seems to make all the
difference in the world with
the ADHD students. It is
amazing how much more

engaged they are once they
realize I am interested in them
and want them in the class.

- Lisa S., Hayward, California

Dear Tom, thank you for your
personal response… and for the
fabulous strategies for
effectively intervening with
some of our problematic
children. I already knew that
the primary problem resided in
the way our teachers failed to
deal with the kids needs… you
have provided me with some very
powerful ways to elevate my
teachers' awareness of simple
ways to de-escalate problems
before they become huge
(and
irreversible) issues. Thanks
again.

- Julie Davidson, Chattanooga,
Tennessee

Your book justifies my nearly
40 years working with public
school children
and college
students that each child is
responsible for his or her own
behavior and needs to develop
strategies in dealing with
meeting their own unique needs
whatever the label placed on
them: oppositional defiant,
ADD, ADHD, etc. Your materials
are specific to ADHD but with a
lot of overlapping to effective
individual behavior in general.
I am excited about using your
materials in this upcoming
 term.

- John R., Grover, Missouri
